Joan Pere Ferran, a franchisee with Spain’s leading restaurant industry chain, is behind the sponsorship of the Alcanar Cycling Club. Thanks to his passion for cycling, wearing its classic green and yellow jersey, the team will complete its fortieth year in competition.Lizarran, the world's leading tapas and tapas chain, has contributed through one of its franchises to the Aragón–Bearn Cycle Race. The company's franchisee in the Tarrogona province city of Reus, Joan Pere Ferran, is responsible for sponsoring the Alcanar Cycling Club, one of the most historic amateur teams in the country. Thanks to the passion for cycling displayed by this entrepreneur, who is an associate of Spain's leading restaurant chain, the Lizarran Alcanar team, as it is known, is on the verge of completing its fortieth season in competition. The latest challenge for these wearers of the classic green and yellow racing jersey was the Aragón–Bearn Cycle Race, which began on August 2, with the first against-the-clock trial through the streets of Zaragoza, and ended on August 4.
The 42nd Aragón–Bearn Cycle Race was organized by the Ebro Cycling Club, with the participation of 15 teams, including the Lizarran Alcanar team. Of those teams, 10 were Spanish, 4 were French, and they were joined by the Argentine National Team. In total, 96 racers, in addition to the against-the-clock trial in Zaragoza, completed an almost 300 kilometer-long course, between Huesca and Col de Portalet, and Biescas and Cerler. Darío Gadeo, a racer with the UPV Bancaja team, was awarded the yellow jersey, while number 41 of the Lizarran Alcanar team, Gabriel Lorca, finished 34 seconds behind him. This race enjoys a special place in the great tradition of cycling; since it was introduced in 1956 the athletes who have participated have included Pedro Delgado, Laudelino Cubino, Marino Lejarreta and Fernando Escartín.
These kinds of initiatives assumed by its franchisees make Lizarran a business concept in which as well as offering quality food at good prices, a healthy way of life is encouraged, through nutrition and sport. To this end, this network of taverns, with more than 160 establishments and an international presence, regularly organizes all kinds of events, including a seven-a-side football tournament in Madrid, and its most recent promotion of the San Fermín festivities.
Everyone knows that in the present climate companies need to seek new ways to appeal to the current values and motivations of their customers. Lizarran has managed to position itself as a pioneer in the restaurant concept which combines the benefits of modern gastronomy with traditional quality, while at the same time transforming itself into an exporter to the rest of the world of the tapas culture. This Spanish company has opted for the values of the Mediterranean diet, which combines relaxation and good food so well. All of its traditional tapas and dishes are made using the highest quality Spanish products.
